Celebrating Black History Month
The Shireinu Choir of Long Island and the Free Will Baptist Church Mass Choir sang together as a tribute to the civil rights leader at the Lake Success Jewish Center. The two choirs joined voices to sing several songs to honor King's legacy, including Matisyahu’s popular “One Day” and very spiritual “Total Praise” by Richard Smallwood.
"Standing Together As A Community" featured more than 80 voices from the Shireinu Choir of Long Island and the Free Will Baptist Church of Freeport Mass Choir to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Heal Us Now by Leon Sher - Premiered March 25, 2021
With in person rehearsals suspended for over a year, the Shireinu Choir of Long Island took on a pandemic project to create a virtual recording of "Heal Us Now," an appropriate selection for the times. With lyrics including We pray for healing of the body. We pray for healing of the soul. For strength of flesh and mind and spirit. We pray to once again be whole the song represents what many of us have experienced this past year while uplifting our spirits and bringing us together as a choir. |
Hear the Shireinu Choir of Long Island sing the beautiful song, Yesh Kochavim, featuring guest soloist Cantor Elizabeth Shammash.

There are stars up above so far away
we only see their light long long after the star itself is gone. And so it is with people that we loved, Their memories keep shining ever brightly Though their time with us is done. But the stars that light up the darkest night, These are the lights that guide us. As we live our days, these are the ways we remember, we remember. As we live our days, these are the ways we remember, we remember. |
