Shireinu Choir of Long Island features selections in Hebrew as well as English, Ladino, Italian and Yiddish, and explores Jewish heritage through music and song.

Our repertoire is taken from traditional Jewish choral works of the past to contemporary composers.

Participants from any town or borough are invited to participate. We are an SATB, nondenominational choir. Those wishing to audition should contact us via email at info@shireinuchoirli.org or call us at 516-551-6228.

Music & Heritage

Deborah Tartell is the founding Conductor and Musical Director of the Shireinu Choir of Long Island, with almost 40 years of experience as a public school choral director, musical theater director, private voice and piano teacher. Deborah received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Delaware where she received an award and scholarship for excellence in student teaching. She did graduate work at the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies in Aldeburgh, England.
Her career as a high school choral director included conducting the renowned Moorestown High School Madrigal Singers. Deborah has taught vocal music in prestigious Bronxville and Roslyn public school districts, and worked as Musical Director and orchestral pianist for the Drama Club at Great Neck North Middle School. Deborah has served as a NYSSMA adjudicator and is a member of the American Choral Directors Association. Students in her private studio have been accepted into All-State Chorus, All-County Chorus, received leading roles in school musical theater and opera productions and have been admitted to conservatory programs.
Deborah is a participant in the annual Zamir North American Jewish Choral Festival and recently traveled to Israel to sing with the Israel at 70 Mission.

​Our wonderful accompanist, Olga Gurevich, joined Shireinu Choir of Long Island in our third year,  bringing her
stellar experience as both a teacher and musician, and playing a major role advancing the choir as a whole.
Ms. Gurevich earned her Master's degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at Gnesin Academy of Music, and then finished her post graduate studies at Maimonides State Academy in Moscow, Russia. Olga is a winner of international piano competitions both in solo and piano four-hands divisions. Olga has been a devoted educator for over two decades. Currently, Ms Gurevich is on the piano faculty of Bloomingdale School of Music in NYC, in addition to acting as a Steinway Hall teacher.
Her concert appearances include Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, 92nd Street Y, the Symphony Space in NYC, Smirna Opera Theatre in Delaware, Scuola Civica in Cagliari, Italy, and many others. Olga has performed with Manhattan Symphonie, Richmond County orchestra, New York Session Symphony orchestra, Riverside Opera Company, New Opera Company, and as a member of numerous chamber music ensembles. She has been a pianist in residence for Silver Bay String Quartet summer program in Adirondacks since 2015.
